The Warwick Regis Hotel hotel description>>

Horrible Hotel: Do not stay here
Reviewer: San Francisco visitor, Phoenix, AZ

Upon arriving in San Francisco by car, because the hotel said there was valet, there was no parking in front of the hotel. Only three cars can park in front of the hotel at one time, so I was forced to drive around the block at least ten times waiting for a car to leave. Finally when I was able to park the car no one was outside to help with our bags. When checking in I asked if the parking was a flat rate and was informed that it would cost $29 a day to park the car!!!!!! $29 a day! I was told I was free to drive around and try to find cheaper parking and I didn't not appreciate the receptionist s attitude. Tired from half a days worth of travel I just let them park the car. Now here is where it gets good. When they took my card to charge me for the room they charged me $149 a night when I had made a reservation for $129 a night ON THEIR WEBSITE. I protested and since I did not have my original confirmation they would not lower my rate. I found this to be extremely unprofessional. When my girlfriend and I went up to our room I also discovered they gave me a room with a queen size bed and not a king size bed. So not only did they rip me off on the room price, they also cheated my on the bed I had reserved. Oh, and about the room... TINY TINY TINY. My dorm room in college was bigger and that was small. The bathroom sink is IN the room and the toilet and tub are in the actual bathroom. Over an early lunch the next day, extremely upset by the management s dishonesty and the extremely disappointing quality of their TINY room we decided we were going to leave and go home. And I was not surprised at all when the hotel demanded we pay for half a days worth of the rate because we decided to leave after the 11 am check-out time. I would not stay at the Warwick Regis ever again and would never even think of subjecting anyone I know to the hotel's dishonest and unprofessional way of doing business. And when I was leaving one of the doormen called me a "cheapskate" under his breath. I was shocked and appalled and will be writing the parent company a letter about my experience. Please consider other hotel arrangements and spend an extra $10 or $20 a night for a more upscale establishment because you will be much happier.

We were married in San Francisco (about an hour and a half from our home) and stayed at the Regis on our wedding night and have returned regularly in the past 15 years. As diplomats we are not in San Francisco as much as we would like to be but when we are we like to stay at the Regis, not just for sentimental reasons but because it is located in a neighborhood that we enjoy, the rooms are well-done and natty, the vintage of the hotel suits us and it is very much in the style of The City. Typically, when the hotel parks our car, we do not use it again until we leave. We now have two children and they are asking to stay at the Regis. Although I would not say the hotel is for children, if children are well-behaved, they can enjoy the hotel as well. Among my favorite things to do in The City is a Giants game, dinner at Tadich's and an evening at the Regis.

Comfortable Small Hotel

Stayed July 2003. Very comfortable small hotel. Rooms are small but well-appointed and clean in the European fashion. Service was excellent. Good bargain. Good location a couple of blocks off Union Square. The street is noisy so get a room on the opposite side if that's an issue.
