Nearly 30 Wetherspoons pubs are up for sale around the country, with a number of boozers under threat of being shuttered.
A list of the vulnerable boozers has been posted on a website named JDW Disposals run by real estate agents CBRE and Savills which lists 28 of the locals that are available to protective buyers. Of those pubs 11 are already under offer, meaning people have put a proposal forward to Wetherspoon, which is considering whether to push ahead. This means that the deal is not nailed on to happen.
The chain said in its July trading updates that “almost all” of the pubs up for sale were in areas where another Wetherspoon was nearby. The chain insisted that the decision to close the pubs was a “commercial” one and not down to trade.
