A Deliveroo driver has been hailed a hero after claiming to “smash” to Dublin knifeman's head in with his helmet.
Chaos erupted in Dublin yesterday (Thursday, November 23) after a horrific knife attack injured a woman and three children. A man was also injured in the incident. Later that evening the streets of the country's capital were glowing as Garda vehicles, trams and buses burned in protest at the attack.
Emergency services rushed to Parnell Square East shortly after 1.30pm after reports of five people injured. Three children and an adult woman were injured in the stabbing – the woman and a five-year-old girl were injured seriously.

After initial confusion, Garda said a man in his 50s who also sustained serious injuries was the only person of interest in their investigation. Ireland's premier Leo Varadkar confirmed a suspect was detained at the scene, which is close to a primary school.
Geraghty said the incident was not thought to be terror-related. "It would appear to be a stand-alone attack, and we need to determine the reasons behind that," he said.
And it has now emerged that a Brazilian Deliveroo driver stopped the rampaging attacker from causing more damage. Caio Benicio was on his motorbike in the area as the attack unfolded – he witnessed the bloke attacking a young girl, leading him to get off his bike and hit the attacker with his helmet.

Speaking to The Journal, he said: “I didn’t even make a decision, it was pure instinct, and it was all over in seconds. He fell to the ground, I didn’t see where knife went, and other people stepped in. I have two kids myself, so I had to do something. I did what anyone would do. People were there but they couldn’t step in because he was armed, but I knew I could use my helmet as a weapon.

Dublin 'stabbing': Three kids and two adults injured in 'serious incident' near school
Irish president Michael D Higgins expressed his sympathies for the children injured in the attack and their families. "We are particularly thinking of the five-year-old girl and the member of staff caring for her who are both in serious condition in hospital," he said.
Irish Justice Minister Helen McEntee described the rioters as "a thuggish and manipulative element" who "must not be allowed to use an appalling tragedy to wreak havoc".
