Pressure is building under Mr Johnson over several parties and gatherings that happened in Downing Street during lockdown. Last night, Mr Johnson’s chief of staff and principal private secretary, Dan Rosenfield and Martin Reynolds, resigned. They were the third and fourth departures in a “dramatic night of the long knives”, says The New Statesman. Rishi Sunak has also distanced himself from Boris Johnson’s controversial Jimmy Savile slur about Sir Keir Starmer, saying he “wouldn’t have said it”. This was the first sign of divide emerging between the Chancellor and the Prime Minister.
