The group of 3,500 private practitioners urged Italy’s health ministry to stop using the jab citing questions over its efficacy. The doctors complained about being given AstraZeneca vaccines while their public-sector colleagues have received alternatives made by Pfizer and Moderna.
It is the latest attack on the UK jab which comes despite the European Union having a meltdown last month over supply shortages.
Commenting on this website, one Express.co.uk reader fumed: “If they don’t want it there are millions of others who do.”
Another blasted: “Fine don’t use the AZ Vaccine, your choice!!”
A third posted: “Just another day in the life of the EU, what wasted years this country has had with these losers.”
Another wrote: “NOBODY is forcing these countries to purchase or use any vaccine.
“However, the noise they are making about it makes it obvious that they are just suffering from a bad attack of sour grapes.”
A fifth hit out: “That’s fine let the EU stay in a semi-permanent lockdown, because of their bitterness and politics. Send vaccines to people who will use it.”
Another attacked French President Emmanuel Macron – who claimed the jab was “quasi-ineffective” in older people – saying: “Macron, the idiot, is to blame for this debacle.
“His spiteful envy spilled out to the press and this is the result.
“Bottom line – the vaccine is Anglo/Swedish; not French, German or Italian. That’s what sticks in their throats.”
Another insisted: “AstraZeneca should now refuse to send any vaccine to EU countries.”
One more reader commented: “This has nothing to do with the quality and performance of the AstraZeneca vaccine!

“It is to do with Brexit and payback for Brexit and the fact we would not join the EU procurement process.”
Plastic surgeon Paolo Mezzana, a representative for the group of private specialists, said: “It’s not that we are acting like spoiled children.
“We are not against AstraZeneca for the sake of it, but we know that with their vaccine it takes longer to get a complete immunisation.
“We are not class B doctors.”
It comes amid reports of citizens shunning the Oxford/AstraZeneca jab in EU countries including Italy, Germany, France and Belgium.
The European Medicines Agency has authorised the vaccine for use across the bloc for all adults.
But despite the findings by Brussels’ drugs watchdog, at least 10 member states have chosen not to approve the jab for over-65s.
Meanwhile, the UK’s vaccine rollout has seen more than 18 million people receive their first dose and 700,000 given their second.
