Rug pulled from under Sturgeon as ‘transfer of powers’ needed for indyref2 plot

will face a grilling from opposition leaders in today’s First Minister’s Questions (FMQs) after it was revealed that the First Minister will need a “transfer of power” to get the legislation for a second independence referendum through Holyrood.

Legal advice published on Monday said the Scottish government would be able to “lawfully” propose independence, including preparing a referendum bill.

However, Scottish Government lawyers also said ministers would need to call for the “transfer of power” from Westminister under a Section 30 order to hold another referendum legally.
