Sir Lindsay Hoyle interrupted the proceedings at PMQs after over MPs being too loud as Mr Grundy sat up to speak. Sir Lindsay commented on the cheering the Conservative MP received when his name was called, jokingly suggesting he “got a future” within the party considering the evident support he received. The Speaker’s comments had MPs erupt into laughter at the subtle swipe at Liz Truss, who is battling to stay in power after weeks of flip-flopping on her main policies.


Mr Grundy could be seen grinning as colleagues cheered him on after being called up to ask his question to Ms Truss.

As the disruption continued for a good ten seconds, Sir Lindsay stood up in a bid to calm the spirits and bring the Commons back on track.

He said: “Order. Just sit. Can I just say, it’s obvious there’s more popular choice.

“Come on, James Grundy – you’ve got a future.”
