Joe Biden attended his first late-night show as President on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show on NBC yesterday. In a video call from the White House, the US leader explained how he did not have a single Republican vote regarding his Build Back Better plan.

The drafted bill, which is supposed to introduce affordable childcare for all working-class and middle-class families, among others, has not been voted on yet.

According to the President, the bill faces rejection from Republicans because there’s a lack of communication that did not exist before Trump’s presidency.

Mr Biden says he used to be friends with many Republicans while disagreeing with their views.

He mentions he recently did Bob Dole’s eulogy, a Republican Senate leader and presidential candidate who died earlier this week aged 98.

Joe Biden said: “We were friends, we disagreed, but we were friends. We used to have an awful lot of that relationship.

“And that still exists.

“Except the QAnon and the extreme elements of the Republican Party, what Donald Trump seems to keep feeding the big lie, makes it hard.

“An awful lot of Republicans in Congress would agree with me.”

The President then reiterated that the bill was already paid for, meaning no one making less than 400,000 dollars a year would pay an additional cent in taxes.

He also claimed the bill would not increase the American deficit by a penny.

The Build Back Better plan aims to send all children as early as three years old to school, create jobs and reduce the cost of living for all working-class households.

Republicans such as Senator Bill Cassidy have vehemently opposed the bill.

Mr Cassidy said on ABC that the Build Back Better plan is “a bad, bad, bad bill.”

He added: “There’s corporate welfare. It’s going to raise the price of gasoline at least about 20 cents a gallon. And it begins to have federal dictates as to how your child’s preschool is handled, the curriculum even.”
