PM and Liz Truss launch diplomatic blitz to ease tensions over Ukraine

The PM is visiting Nato HQ in Belgium for talks with Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, amid efforts to forge a united alliance against Russia.

He will also meet Polish PM Mateusz Morawiecki and visit British troops stationed in Poland.

Vladimir Putin insists Russia has no plans to invade Ukraine, despite amassing more than 100,000 troops on its borders.

Ms Truss will hold talks in Moscow with counterpart Sergei Lavrov in the first visit by a UK Foreign Secretary for more than four years.

Ahead of her visit, she said: “The UK is determined to stand up for freedom and democracy in Ukraine. We strongly encourage Russia to engage, de-escalate and choose the path of diplomacy.”
