World Athletics bans transgender athletes from competing in female events
The exclusion of transgender people from single-sex areas in public has been a point of controversy in public debate. Some argue that transgender law reforms pose a risk to the safety of women and girls. Labour MP Rosie Duffield and Conservative MP Miriam Cates have united and spoken exclusively to the Daily Express about the need to protect women’s rights. So, do you think single-sex spaces should be reserved for biologically female women? Vote in our poll.
In a joint statement, Ms Duffield and Ms Cates said: “Women’s rights must be protected at all costs and we have united across the political divide to make sure they are not wiped out by stealth because people are too afraid to speak out.
“This is not a party political issue, it’s about protecting the dignity of women and girls by maintaining single-sex spaces, women’s sport and female-only services, such as refuges and rape crisis centres.
“For too long, women have been told to shut up about this issue by a small group of extremist activists.
“But this is too important for us to stay silent and that is why we have come together to fight to defend the rights of women.”

Equalities Minister Kemi Badenoch is considering overhauling the Equalities Act to ensure there is a legal distinction between those born as women and those who have transitioned to become female.
Earlier this month Prime Minister Rishi Sunak highlighted the importance of preserving single-sex spaces for “biological” women. In an interview with the Conservative Home website, he said: “When it comes to these issues of protecting women’s rights, women’s spaces, I think the issue of biological sex is fundamentally important.
“We need to make sure, particularly when it comes to women’s health, women’s sports or indeed spaces, that we’re protecting those rights and those places.”
