The Prime Minister and Australian premier Scott Morrison were expected to seal the deal in a video call last night. Both countries will work closely in the Indo-Pacific region amid concern about China’s expansionist ambitions.
Britain will also invest £25million in the area to counter security threats.
The deal follows the UK-Australia Free Trade Agreement in December.
Mr Johnson said: “Our nations are forging a new partnership from a historic alliance, fit for the next century and grounded in our shared priorities on security, democracy and free and fair trade.”
The two are aiming to boost space, science and tech links. UK energy firm Octopus will develop a renewable energy project Down Under worth £26billion.
