She said migration was an international crisis that requires a “global solution” while speaking to Lee Anderson, the Conservative Party deputy chairman, on GB News.
Ms Braverman said: “Whether it is New York City, whether it is the border with Texas, whether it is Italy, whether it is the Channel, we need to look again at whether these international rules are fit for purpose.
“And what I said in my speech is that there is a lot at stake. There is democratic legitimacy which is at stake.
“People want control of their borders and they want government to get a grip on this and if we don’t it will lead to a disintegration in our society.

“And we need to change — we need to change some of the definitions relating to refugee persecution. It needs to be a high bar if someone is coming to our country fleeing persecution, not a low bar.”
She also accused Labour of being “clueless” on illegal migration.
Ms Braverman warned that the Opposition party would “fundamentally open our borders”.
She said: “The Labour party is clueless on the issue. They would scrap our Rwanda plan. They would fundamentally open our borders. They want to renegotiate with the EU returns agreement. The EU’s even said that’s a stupid or deluded idea.
“And they are effectively a party for open borders, unlimited migration and I’m afraid, re-joining the EU.”
“On any basis, the numbers heading to our country are too high. We cannot take this level of migration.”
Small boat arrivals accounted for about 45 percent of asylum applications made in the UK in 2022.
In total, 45,755 migrants crossed the Channel that year, the highest number since figures began to be collected in 2018.
Mr Anderson interviewed the Cabinet Secretary on his show following a speech by Ms Braverman on the issue from the US which has divided their party.
A Labour spokesman said: “It’s fictional garbage from a Home Secretary who is failing so badly to fix the Tory chaos in the asylum [system] that she’s now making things up about everyone else.
“Only Labour has a plan to end the chaos in Britain’s asylum system.”
GB News boss Angelos Frangopoulos was adamant that an “interview” with Ms Braverman by Mr Anderson would be “duly impartial”.

He defended the broadcaster’s practice of getting Conservative MPs who are being paid to host shows to have discussions with their colleagues in Government.
With four serving Tory MPs on its bankroll, GB News has been coming under increasing scrutiny from Ofcom over the practice and has once been found to have breached the rules.
Mr Frangopoulos insisted the MPs’ work is “absolutely permitted under the Ofcom rules”, arguing that none of them host “a news bulletin-based programme”.
He added: “If that changes in the future then obviously we’ll look at it.”
Mr Anderson receives £100,000-a-year for his show on top of his £86,584 MP’s salary.
Ofcom chief executive Dame Melanie Dawes has said that the interview with Ms Braverman would comply with its rules as long as the “overall show … preserves due impartiality”.
Earlier this month, Ofcom found that an interview with Chancellor Jeremy Hunt by married Tory MPs Esther McVey and Philip Davies broke due impartiality rules.
