Armed cops have raced to streets in Bristol to hunt two "aggressive" dogs on the loose in the city.

Avon and Somerset Police have warned people to avoid the area in The Groves, Hartcliffe and urged them to call 999 if they see the dangerous hounds.

The officers have told parents to keep their kids indoors to stay safe from a potential attack.

They tweeted this afternoon: "We're aware of reports regarding 2 large, aggressive dogs roaming loose in The Groves, Hartcliffe area.

"One is light brown speckled and is injured; the other is dark drown in colour. If sighted, do NOT approach and call 999 immediately, quoting log 344.

"Officers are currently dealing with an incident involving two aggressive dogs. As a precaution we advise unaccompanied children avoid the area at this time."

Local residents have reported seeing a police helicopter in the area as part of the police search to bring the dogs under control.
