Boss who gave staff £8k bonus and plane tickets hailed worlds best employer

A boss who gave her staff $10,000 (£8,000) bonuses and two plane tickets to anywhere in the world has been hailed "world's best employer".

An incredible gesture of generosity was displayed by Sara Blakely, the creator of Spanx, who gave her 750 employees the bonuses along with two free first-class Delta plane tickets each, as a thank you for their service as the underwear garment company reached a $1.2billion (£1b) valuation.

A video of the moment Blakely broke the news to her employees went viral on social media, garnering positive publicity with the public praising Blakely for her kind gesture.

In the video, the businesswoman said: "I'm spinning a globe because to celebrate this moment I have bought each one of you two first-class tickets to anywhere in the world.

She added: "You know, if you want a trip, you might want to go out to a really nice dinner, you might want to go out to a really nice hotel so, with every one of those two first-class tickets to anywhere in the world, you are each getting $10,000."

After moving to Atlanta, Georgia, USA, at 27 years old, Blakely invested her life savings of $5,000 (£4,150) into the venture and 22 years later, Spanx is now one of the biggest underwear companies in the world and Blakely, who is the CEO of the company, paid tribute to the women that came before her.

"This is a very big moment for each and every one of you, and I want to also toast the women that came before me and all of the women in the world who have not had this opportunity.

"So at a moment like this, I think of my mom and my grandmother and their lack of options and all the women that came before them."

Blakely posted the news to her Instagram with the caption of the video stating: "It was an emotional announcement filled with happy tears acknowledging how far we’ve come.

“I really want every employee to celebrate this moment in their own way and create a memory that will last them a lifetime! Cheers to 21 years of magic and many more to come,” she added.
