A man bit off the end of his girlfriend's nose and then spat it back at her during a "vicious" and "brutal" attack.
Aaron Luke Chapman carried out the sickening attack "without warning" while the couple were in a Premier Inn.
Chapman, 21, was jailed for four-and-a-half years following the gruesome assault in Stockton on September 30, last year, TeessideLive reports.
The woman said in a statement that Chapman's abuse left her "scarred for life" and that the injury to her nose caused her "immense pain".
Sentencing Chapman, Recorder Taryn Turner said the six-month "toxic relationship" was "abusive, almost from the get-go".
She sentenced him for assaulting a PC and wounding with intent at Teesside Crown Court on Monday.
On September 29 the couple went to stay at the Premier Inn near the Tees Barrage where they "smoked cannabis" and drank alcohol together.
Paul Rooney, prosecuting, said at around 5am on September 30, Chapman, "without warning", carried out a "vicious and brutal attack" while in the hotel.
"He punched her repeatedly to the face and punched her to the left eye and fractured her cheek bone", he said.
"He bit her on the arm and the index finger with such force it caused bleeding.

"He continued to attack her by biting her nose. He bit the end of her nose off and spat it at her."
The police were called and Chapman was arrested after claiming she caused the injuries to herself by headbutting a wall and punching herself.
He was on police bail at the time for carrying out a separate assault on the woman on September 9 and then attacking the officers who came to arrest him.

Mr Rooney said Chapman beat her when an argument broke out over a missing pack of cigarettes.
He returned to the woman's flat a day later and demanded "where's my green?" before smashing up her bedroom and breaking a mirror.
Mr Rooney said Chapman picked up a shard of glass and cut himself with it before police arrived.
He became aggressive and attacked them by headbutting an officer as they tried to search him for weapons.

Five officers had to restrain him before he was released on police bail, with conditions he stay away from the woman and the flat.
He breached the order on September 28 and repeatedly punched her in the face before he savagely bit her lip.
Mr Rooney said she escaped from a bedroom window but Chapman chased her down and dragged her back to the flat.
The woman refused to give a statement to police who found him hiding under a bed.

In mitigation, Jonathan Walker said Chapman, of Eaglescliffe, was in a "very, very dark place" at the time of the offences and had been "consuming drugs".
He said it was "completely out of character" and that he was "extremely sorry" and "deeply ashamed".
