Comments on what was meant to be a happy Christmas message on social media to the public ended with a photograph of Prince Charles and Camilla having comments turned off.
The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall posted a message on all social media accounts with a photograph of them together in 2020.
The message said: "Wishing you all a happy Christmas and here’s to a better New Year!"
But their accounts were hit with hateful comments by users due to a TV show.
The incident, which is believed to have been sparked by a season of Netflix’s The Crown, caused Clarence House to turn off comments on posts.
Users were speaking of the season of The Crown last year which depicted Charles and Camilla’s relationship during his marriage to the late Prince Diana.
The show was criticised for being “over the top on dramatic licence” by Dickie Arbiter, the Queen's former communications secretary for a decade.
One commenter, sharing the couple's picture, said: "They disabled replies. He knew we would flood them with Diana."

Another commented on the Christmas card they released that year and said: "I hated Prince Charles and Camilla before season four of The Crown and the recent podcasts I’ve indulged in, but now I loathe them. I just saw their Christmas card and I am irrationally angry."
Following comments on their social media accounts, Clarence House limited the possibility to reply to its tweets to allow only accounts it follows or mentions on November 24, 2020.

The Crown has been criticised by those close to the Royal Family for its portrayal of the royals.
Dickie Arbiter, the Queen's former communications secretary for a decade, slammed the show for being “over the top on dramatic licence”.
Prince William also has reportedly told pals he was displeased with the depiction of his family.
According to a pal, The Duke of Cambridge believed that "his parents are being exploited and presented in a false, simplistic way to make money".
