Dad tells police my sons dead body has been in the kitchen since 2018

A father has been arrested after police found the human remains of his son in his kitchen – four years after his death.

David McMichael, 67, was charged with abuse of a corpse after cops made the grim discovery at his house in New Boston, around 150 miles northeast of Dallas, Texas, USA.

Police said they went to his house after they received a request for a welfare check for his son, Jason.

But when officers asked if he knew why they were there, McMichael said it was because he had Jason's body in his kitchen, a police spokesman said.

The New Boston Police Department said it was now investigating how Jason died in May 2018.

Cops were called on Tuesday, March 29, just after 5pm to carry out the welfare check.

A spokesman said: "When officers arrived on scene they made contact with David McMichael, father of the subject.

"He was asked by officers on scene if he knew why they were there. Mr. McMichael advised them it was because he had a body in his kitchen.

"He advised Officers that the body was of his son who died in May of 2018.

"The officers on scene made entry into the home and found the skeletal remains of a male.

"A short time later David McMichael was then taken into custody without issue."

Crime scene investigators were called in to comb the house for the clues and cops believe the body is likely that of Jason's.

The remains have been sent to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas where identification will be confirmed.

An autopsy has also been ordered to establish the cause of death.

A spokesman added: "After examining the skeletal remains it was determined that the body was that of a male, possibly Jason McMichael."

Police said David McMichael is being held in custody pending further inquiries.
