Bruna Gobbi, 18, later died from her injuries, in what is thought to be the first case of a woman killed by a shark in the area since records began.
The video shows Ms Gobbi swimming in water that was waist deep in the sea at Boa Viagem, Recife, when the shark struck.
A giant splash can be seen before the sea turns red.
She was quickly rushed back to the beach where she was seen to have a serious injury in her leg where the shark had taken a bite out of her.
She was taken to hospital where surgeons amputated most of her left leg.
The teenager died after surgery.
Ms Gobbi's sister, Daniele, was in the sea with her at the time of the attack.
She said: "The rescuers came in a matter of five minutes but to us it felt like five years."
Ms Gobbi had reportedly been warned about the dangers of swimming in the sea, while shark attadk warnings are displayed along the length of the beach.
