Expert not surprised that Royal Family didnt want Meghan at Philips funeral

A royal expert has explained why it is "not that surprising" that the Royal Family wanted Meghan Markle to steer clear of Prince Philip's funeral.

The claims originally came from an updated version of Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand's book Finding Freedom, which was rereleased on August 31.

The unofficial biography of Harry and Meghan, which the Sussexes were not involved in at all, alleges that several royals were "understood to be 'quietly pleased'" with Meghan's absence from the funeral as they "didn't want a circus".

One royal source in the book states they wanted to avoid "the Duchess creating a spectacle".

Doctors wouldn't allow Meghan to travel to the UK as she was heavily pregnant with daughter Lillibet at the time.

Royal expert Jonathan Sacerdoti reckons that the royal reaction to the news was quite understandable.

He said: "I suppose that is quite explosive as a claim but again, not that surprising.

"I think who of us didn't know that perhaps the Royal Family didn't want Meghan there after everything that had been going on and in a funeral for somebody who is so much loved, not just in the family, by the Queen herself and by the nation as well.

"You can remember that that funeral was actually very poignant because of how small it was and yet it had all that pomp and circumstance that surrounds Royal Family events.

"I think the distraction of having Meghan there, who wasn't that close to the Duke of Edinburgh as far as we can tell, because I mean she hadn't even been in the family for that long.

"Not saying that to disrespect her, it's just how it was, so given it was 30 or something people who were allowed to be there, I'm not surprised that Meghan wasn't necessarily high up on the list of guests."

Prince Harry was able to fly over for his grandfather's funeral in April, which was the first time he'd seen his family since the explosive Oprah Winfrey interview.

On the show, Meghan alleged there were concerns within the family over the colour of son Archie's skin, and Harry said that his brother William and father Charles were "trapped".

The rereleased book claims that Harry and William had several chats over the course of the trip, but that Harry and Charles' differences remain unresolved.
