Firefighters with South Metro Fire Rescue quickly extinguished a trash fire Friday after the driver of a garbage truck dumped the truck’s fiery load in a parking lot.
No one was injured and the fire is out, SMFR said on Twitter.
The incident happened in an office park at 1745 Shea Center Drive, Highland Ranch.
“The fire started in a garbage truck and the driver dumped the contents into this open lot to save the truck,” SMFR said. No structures were threatened and no one was injured.
Firefighters remained on the scene to check that embers didn’t drift in the wind and spark a nearby extension of the original fire.
The quick-thinking driver quickly dumped the load, in part, because the truck operates on compressed natural gas, which is potentially explosive.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
