Giant Christmas baubles seen hurtling down London street after coming loose

Two giant Christmas baubles were seen on the rampage down a major London street on Monday night.

Halloween was still in full swing when the Christmas nightmare quite literally rolled into town, down Tottenham Court Road.

A 46-second video shows the huge mirrored decorations, each larger than cars, tumbling down the middle of the road, as Storm Claudio battered parts of the country with strong winds and rain.

The Met Office had issued a yellow weather warning for southern coast of England as Storm Claudio made its way over from France.

The clip was uploaded by TheShadeBorough, who wrote: "Looks like these #Christmas decorations couldn’t withstand the heavy winds in Central London last night! Two giant baubles were spotted flying through Tottenham Court Road."

One of the oversized baubles was filmed hitting a lamppost, causing it to shed its shiny skin, before it continued on its journey down the street.

It is unclear where the balls had escaped from, but as they rolled down the street, drivers were filmed having to take evasive action to dodge their ricocheting path.

The footage soon went viral on social media, where users compared it to “a giant game of pinball” or a scene from a disaster movie.

“Imagine you’re casually walking by and a fat ball like that is coming right at you,” said TikTok user Anastasia.

“And THAT’S why you don’t, put the Christmas decorations up early,” joked Twitter user Robert Bailey.

Another wrote: "Imagine that hitting your car and having to explain to the insurance company that a giant bauble did the damage.”

It is understood the baubles were brought under control soon after the footage was captured.

The incident came the day before Oxford Street’s annual Christmas light switch-on, which is due to take place on Wednesday and is expected to attract huge crowds.
