Groom, 20, killed in crash hours before own wedding as fiancée pays tribute

A young groom was killed on the same day he was due to get married – leaving behind a devastated bride vowing to love him forever.

Myles ‘Miley’ Harty, 20, was due to marry his adoring fiancé Kate Quilligan at a church in Ireland.

But the wedding turned to a funeral when a car he was travelling in hammered into a pole at Cragmore, on the Askeaton to Rathkeale Road in Limerick in the early hours of this morning.

Heartbroken Kate still went to the location the wedding was planned for – but instead of tying the knot as they had planned, she released balloons in his honour, reports The Sun.

She said: “I’m letting off balloons at 3 o’clock today at St Munchins Church for my lovely husband.

“That’s where we all should be celebrating the best day of our life – but instead it’s the worst.

“I love you forever. It will always be me and you no matter what.

“I love you unconditionally my gentle giant, you didn’t deserve this my handsome baby boy.”

Hundreds of family and friends, who were due to attend the celebrations, met to remember Myles.

A sound system played tunes and blue heart-shaped balloons which read “King For A Day” and “20” were let off into the sky above the church.

The teenage driver of the tragic vehicle was arrested by cops at the scene.

A third man was raced to University Hospital Limerick and is currently in a stable condition.

Social media is awash with tributes from the wider Traveller community which Myles was a part of.

One moving tribute said: “Every girl waits for that day their whole life.

"Can you imagine how excited you would be and then for it to be all taken away just like that?”

Whilst another read: “Can’t believe it. Rest in peace Miley. God be with you my friend.

“Nicest boy you could have met. Just one day before his wedding. Condolence to his family at this awful, sad time.”
