A murder investigation has been launched after a man in his 20s was fatally shot in a London street on Tuesday night – in what residents claim was a drive-by shooting.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police confirmed to the Daily Star Online: "Police were called to Austin Road, Hayes, shortly before 10pm on Tuesday, 13 October, to reports of a shooting.
"Officers attended along with paramedics from London Ambulance Service. A man in his 20s was found with gunshot injuries.
"Despite the efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later."
A crime scene has been put in place and murder detectives from the capital's homicide squad have been informed.
Enquiries continue.
In the wake of the violent incident, residents living nearby took to social media to claim the dead man had been the victim of a drive-by shooting, and that the fatal bullets had been fired from a passing vehicle.
The London Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
