Meet Mexicos new Cartel Queen now leading El Chapos drug trafficking empire

The glam wife of Ovidio Guzmán – Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzmán's son – has reportedly assumed a leading role in her husband's drug cartel.

Adriana Meza Torres has now been dubbed the 'Queen of the Sinaloa Cartel'.

Ovidio, also known as El Ratón, was captured by Mexican military personnel in a bloody shootout at his bolthole in Culiacan last Thursday (January 5).

The firefight claimed the lives of 29 people – 10 soldiers and 19 suspected cartel members.

Ovidio was extracted by helicopter and flown to Mexico City before being taken to a maximum security federal prison.

He is currently awaiting the verdict of an extradition application from US authorities.

Mexican news outlets report that Adriana is part of Los Chapitos, the faction of the Sinaloa Cartel led by El Chapo's sons but now left rudderless following her husband's arrest.

She is considered drug trafficking royalty, not only given her marriage into El Chapo's family but also because her father was himself a fearsome narco.

Raul Meza Ontiveros, known as 'El M6', was a high ranking member of the Sinaloa Cartel until he was tortured and executed in Culiacan in 2007.

His daughter now identifies herself as "boss' wife" on TikTok and shows off her lavish lifestyle, paid for by illicit drug profits.

Local reports suggest she is considered to be the successor to El Chapo's wife Emma Coronel within the drug dynasty.

In 2019, when Ovidio was arrested for the first time before promptly being released, Mexican authorities went as far as to freeze some of Adriana's bank accounts.

Her lawyers have claimed there is no clear evidence linking her to Los Chapitos.

She also claimed she was involved in agriculture in a so-far unsuccessful bid to have her accounts unfrozen.
