Mums heart shattered as first of 19 Texas school massacre victims identified

Heartbreaking images of young children killed in the Texas school massacre have been released to the public for the first time.

Two boys and two girls have been identified so far after teenager Salvador Ramos opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday (May 24).

The death toll continued to rise through the night, with at least 19 kids and three adults including one teacher confirmed to have been killed.

Several more have been reported missing by their families.

One of the first victims was confirmed by his family as 10-year-old Xavier Lopez, who was a fourth grade student at Robb Elementary.

According to Xavier's cousin, his mum last saw him at an awards ceremony just hours before the shooting.

A family friend confirmed late on Tuesday night that Makenna Lee Elrod, 10, had been killed following a her dad, Brandon Elrod's fears that "she may not be alive".

Before Makenna's death was confirmed, Brandon told KTRK that he was "on the way to the funeral home" because "we can't find my daughter".

He added: "It's pretty sad what this world's coming to."

A devastated mum of Makenna's friend took to Facebook to share a tribute for the 10-year-old.

Pilar Newberry wrote: "Sweet Makenna Rest in Paradise!! My heart is shattered as my daughter Chloe loved her so much!!

"I’ll never forget how excited she was to meet a new friend from a different school! Just a few weeks ago she got a friendship bracelet from her at the ballpark and she wears it everyday!

"When she wakes up tomorrow she’s going to be devastated. Praying so hard for her sweet family!!!!"

Bereaved father Angel Garza told loved ones on social media how his daughter Amerie Jo was taken from him in the massacre and urged others not to take family for granted.

Angel said: "My little love is now flying high with the angels above. Please don’t take a second for granted. Hug your family. Tell them you love them. I love you Amerie Jo."
