One dead after motorcycle crash on Havana Street in Aurora

A man died in a motorcycle accident in Aurora on Monday, according to police.

The fatal crash unfolded near South Havana Street and East Evans Avenue.

The Aurora Police Department said it received a number of calls around 6:50 p.m. that reported a “serious crash.” Both Aurora Fire Rescue and Aurora police were on the scene where a man was found lying in the road.

Although the man was taken to the hospital, he was ultimately pronounced dead, police say.

Early investigation indicates that a blue Subaru Impreza and a Yamaha R6 motorcycle collided. Police believe the motorcycle had been traveling northbound on Havana Street moving at “a high rate of speed.”

The Subaru supposedly made a left turn onto southbound South Havana when it collided with the motorcycle. Police said both vehicles caught fire.

According to Aurora police, the Subaru’s driver stayed at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation.

The crash prompted closures of both directions of Havana Street as investigators looked into the incident. Police say the investigation is ongoing, and they hope to determine what other contributing factors may have been present.

Sgt. Faith Goodrich of the Aurora Police Department said Monday’s crash marks the 24th traffic fatality of the year.
