Oxford Street stabbing as man knifed repeatedly in front of horrified shoppers

Armed police were called as a man was "knifed repeatedly" in front of horrified shoppers in Oxford Street.

Police cordoned off part of Europe's busiest shopping street on Friday evening.

Emergency services were called to the scene close to Oxford Circus Tube station in central London at 7.17pm.

A male was found with multiple stab wounds. His condition and age has not been revealed by police.

In a statement the Metropolitan Police said: "Armed response officers responded to reports of a stabbing in Oxford Street at 7.17pm close to Oxford Circus.

"A male has been found with multiple stab wounds. We await an update on his condition.

"If you have any details around this incident please call 101, REF 6520/13thAUG."

A 60-year-old man was knifed to death on the street last month.

He was stabbed in a "random and unprovoked assault" in broad daylight.

The terrifying attack took place in central London at around 8pm on Thursday, July 1.

The victim was found injured following the incident in Oxford Circus, near to Regent Street, and died in hospital.

Police have confirmed that the man's next of kin has been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

They said at the time that a post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.

A 25-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

In May, a man was stabbed nearby during a mass brawl in Selfridges' flagship London department store.

The victim, who had not been identified, was knifed in the leg following the violent clash inside the upmarket Oxford Street department store at about 7.35pm on Saturday evening.

Seven people were arrested on suspicion of a range of offences, including affray.

A video shared on social media showed a man throw what looked like a mannequin to the floor before another began shouting at him.

More people appeared to get involved, including one who seemed to be brandishing a knife.

The arguing pair were followed by what looks like at least 10 others as a security guard looked on in disbelief.
