Incredible footage shows the moment a brave police officer rammed a suspect’s car head-on during a high-speed pursuit.
PC Katie Eustace, a firearms officer for Nottinghamshire Police, told how she joined the pursuit after a driver in a rental car had failed to stop.
"I saw the car start to go the wrong way round the roundabout which would mean it joining the bypass on the wrong side of the road," she explained.
"Having heard the incident develop over the radio, I knew that this driver was a person who was willing to take risks and drive in a harmful way."
PC Eustace, 31, added: ”My number one thought was that I needed to stop him carrying on and potentially killing a member of the public.
"There was a moment where both me and the offender looked at each other and I was thinking is he really going to do this?! Which of course he did, resulting in a head-on collision.”
The driver was Reece Theisen, formerly of Hucknall in Nottingham, reports Nottinghamshire Live.
The suspect was being tailed by officers as he weaved in and out of traffic – narrowly missing a car transporter – before eventually being stopped by PC Eustace.
Theisen, 27, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving on September 17 and was sentenced to a total of 34 months in prison for dangerous driving, drug offences and two counts of assaulting an emergency worker.
PC Eustace, who is expecting a baby next year, says she joined the force as a response officer in 2009, following in the footsteps of her dad and grandad, who also worked for Nottinghamshire Police.
The moment where she intercepted Theisen, which took place at around 10.40am on January 15 this year, is shown in the latest episode of Police Interceptors on Channel 5.
The Channel 5 show will be aired tonight (November 30) at 8pm.
