Prince William is planning to create a moment that will define his era as the heir to the throne.

He is understood to want £50 million for his 10-year environmental initiative which he will promote through a star-studded cast of familiar faces and big names.

He wants to drill down on his “increasing global leadership on the environment”, with the prize one of the key elements of the plan.

Handed out to five people, it sees £1,000,000 handed to winners to continue their environmental work.

This year, the awards are to be headlined by international sensation Billie Eilish.

Prince William will head to the USA for the awards, in what will be his first major trip across the pond since little brother Harry set up shop there with Meghan Markle in 2020.

It will be William and his wife Kate Middleton’s first official trip since 2014 and will see the city of Boston light up green in celebration.

This year's awards will look back at how the winners of the prize in 2021 have fared, with the information narrated by Kate Blanchet with Sir David Attenborough providing the voice-over for the introduction.

Annie Lennox, Ellie Goulding and Chloe x Halle are all also due to play at the show.

While proceedings will last for three days, the main event will be Friday night’s award ceremony at the MGM Music Hall.

According to the Telegraph, a royal source said: “The prize has become the Prince’s Super Bowl moment of the year, and he looks forward to continuing to use the platform each year to shine a light on some of the most impactful projects doing amazing things around the world to save our planet’s future.

“Inclusivity is a key part of the Earthshot’s mission. This year’s nominees are drawn from all corners of the planet, truly showcasing the best of human ingenuity.

“From indigenous leadership in Australia to female-led solutions in Kenya, diverse stories and solutions are at the heart of the prize.
