Sex robots are now so uncannily realistic that they can easily be mistaken for living human beings by some.
And one Instagram user, single dad Vicks Mustang, says he wants RealDoll’s Nova model “as his girlfriend” after seeing the company’s latest photos.
The AI company shared an image of the doll surrounded by Halloween material.
A message on the account had read: "What should Nova dress up as for Halloween?"
The incredibly detailed models, which the company has been developing since 1996, come with a dizzying array of customisable options.
Nova can be shipped with any one of four basic body types, in five different skin tones. Freckles, the company says, are an optional extra.
The dolls’ head hair can be removed and replaced an the company even offers four different types of pubic hair style too. Throw in the eight 8 eye colours and 24 distinct nipple shapes and its an incredible recipe for realism.
Author Jenny Gleeman wrote the book Sex Robots & Vegan Meat: Adventures at the Frontier of Birth, Food, Sex & Death, which predicts some of the major changes we can expect in society as a result of advancing technology.
She says sex robots could soon become so convincing that many of us will come to prefer their company to that of real people.
She told Daily Star Online: "When it becomes possible to have a relationship where the only thing that matters is what one half of the partnership wants, where you can have interactions and all that matters is what you want to do and what you fancy doing, and when you become used to having relationships with something that doesn't have free will, that doesn't have independent ambitions, or in-laws, or friends you don't like, then going out and having relationships with human beings and using empathy is going to be harder work.
"I think the danger of these robots is their ability to make empathy harder work because we won't need to use it so much in our relationships with these robots.
She believes RealDoll’s innumerable choice of styles – where one doll can even wear 26 interchangeable faces depending on the owner’s mood – means an end to the compromises we all make in normal relationships.
No wonder that some – like Instagram user Vick – are already describing dolls like Nova as their ideal “girlfriend.”
