A 15-year-old committed suicide at home on Tuesday morning after she was found bound and gagged days earlier.
The teenager's mum from Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh, India, has blamed the police for not doing anything about the assault five days before she took her own life.
She alleges that after her daughter was found with her hands and legs tied, and mouth gagged in a plant nursery on October 8, she immediately reported it to the local police.
Three men with their faces covered were spotted leaving the nursery at the same time the girl was missing.
However City Circle officer, Rajnish Yadav has denied police inaction, claiming that they never received a complaint from the family.
After the death of the girl, police registered an FIR of rape, abetment to suicide, wrongful restraining and under the charges in section 3/4 of POCSO Act.
The officer said: “Apparently, they had lured her and indulged in a wrong act.”
Some villagers have told the police that they saw three men drinking alcohol close to the nursery at the time of the attack.
Inspector General of Chitrakoot Police, K Satyanarayan, said the police post in-charge has been suspended for dereliction of duty.
Police said: “One person identified as Kishan has been taken into custody.”
District magistrate Sheshmani Pandey met the family and assured them all possible help.
Police said the victim’s post mortem had been conducted by a panel of four doctors, three of them being women.
