Tragedy as boy dies after falling from hotel window – police block off scene

A boy has died after falling from the window of a hotel in Sheffield, police have confirmed.

Officers from South Yorkshire Police were called to the Sheffield Metropolitan Hotel in the city centre on Wednesday afternoon.

The tragic incident took place at around 2:30pm on Wednesday afternoon at the hotel on Blonk Street, close to the car park.

Police are still investigating the circumstances behind the death, and a large emergency services presence remains in place.

YorkshireLive reports that officers are blocking people from going near the car park, with pictures showing tape around the entrance.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: "We are sorry to share a boy has sadly died after falling from a building in Sheffield this afternoon.

"Emergency services were called to the Sheffield Metropolitan Hotel on Blonk Street, Sheffield at around 2.30pm today (18 August) after reports the boy had fallen from a window.

"The boy’s family are being supported by specially trained officers. No formal identification has taken place yet.

"Enquiries are in the early stages to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident."

Earlier, there were reports of a "large presence" of emergency services, with the NCP car park closed and drivers asked to "avoid the area if you can".
