Two boys, 15, steal car with young children still inside from parents’ driveway

Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of kidnap after a car was stolen with two children still inside the vehicle.

The teens, both boys, allegedly took a Seat Leon from a driveway in Birmingham whit two young children, aged two and four, inside on Saturday, February 20 at 5pm.

Armed police were deployed to find the vehicle, along with dog units, a helicopter and traffic response, BirminghamLive reports.

The car was reportedly spotted driving down a dual carriageway on the wrong side of the 38 Bristol Road near Belgrave Interchange.

Both children were found "safe and well inside the car and reunited with their parents at the roadside".

The two teenagers inside the car "ran from the vehicle," but were "quickly detained and arrested" by officers.

West Midlands Police. said the suspects, both 15, were arrested on suspicion of kidnap and theft of a motor vehicle.

Force Incident Manager, Chief Inspector Lee Wiggan, said the incident is "every parent's worst nightmare" but said the children were reunited "less than fifteen minutes after it was stolen".

Mr Wiggan said: "This type of incident is every parent’s worst nightmare, but thankfully we were able to stop the car and reunite the family less than fifteen minutes after it was stolen.

"It’s a fantastic outcome to what was a very serious, urgent incident and my thanks go to the officers involved as well as West Midlands Ambulance Service for their support".

A spokesperson for West Midland Police said: "Two suspects, both aged 15, ran from the vehicle, but were quickly detained and arrested by officers.

"They’re now in police custody where they will be questioned on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and kidnap."
