The man, in his sixties, fell from around 12 feet.
He is thought to have been attempting to unload heavy goods from the lorry in high winds.
The incident took place in Marston Green, near Solihull at 9pm last night.
Emergency services were called out and attempted to revive the man but he was pronounced dead.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “A man in his 60s was attended to by paramedics at the scene, but was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.”
The force described it as an “industrial accident”.
