Ways which pregnant Meghan Markle survived being most trolled person of 2019

Meghan Markle overcame a tough year of trolling in 2019 and revealed how she got through it and came out the other side.

The Duchess of Sussex faced an internet frenzy, with social media users quick to point the finger at her, following an intense 12 months that included the publication of a letter she sent her father Thomas Markle.

The letter, of which parts were shown in the Mail on Sunday, revealed the breakdown of their relationship, while they also had an interview with Markle Snr, who described the note from his daughter as a “dagger to the heart”.

This raised heckles among social media users and Meghan was also criticised for writing messages on bananas given to sex workers, while she and husband Prince Harry were described as hypocrites for their collective stance on saving the planet while the pair of them flew around the world in a private jet.

She spent almost half the year pregnant with son Archie and claimed she was the “most trolled person in the entire world”, but said she managed to survive the pain and anguish and was a better person for battling through all the hate she received.

She told the Teenager Therapy podcast in 2020: “I’m told that in 2019 I was the most trolled person in the entire world – male or female. Now eight months of that I wasn’t even visible.

“I was on maternity leave or with a baby, but what was able to just be manufactured and churned out, it’s almost unsurvivable.”

One example of the abuse she received was this tweet at the time: “The criticism that Meggie got was well deserved. Why should she not be called out on her behaviour?”

Meghan explained that one of the methods she used to get through that period was to share her experiences with others who had gone through similar ordeals.

She continued: “How do you survive that? You have to talk about it. How can you ever recover from something you are not willing to speak to?

“Journaling is a real powerful thing.”

She revealed how she kept a journal to note down her thoughts, saying how powerful it was and how it put things in perspective.

Being positive also helped, with Harry saying that they had to cut out all the negativity in their lives otherwise they would have just been consumed by it all.

Plus a bit of meditation also played its part, in keeping them cool, calm and collective.

The Duke of Sussex said: “The importance of just taking a moment and creating that time in your day and just take a breath and focus on the things that matter.”
