Woman, 21, accused of stabbing young couple with baby ‘in the chest and back’

A 21-year-old woman has appeared in court, charged with the attempted murder of a man and woman.

Lauren Walsh was charged after the pair were stabbed in the back and chest yesterday in Liverpool’s Old Swan area.

Officers were called to Southgate Road in Liverpool at around 3.15pm yesterday following reports of the attack, and a knife was recovered at the scene.

Paramedics also attended the scene and both victims were rushed to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The man and woman who were stabbed are believed to be a young couple with a baby, that have lived on the street for a few months and "kept themselves to themselves".

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police told the Liverpool Echo: "An investigation is underway following reports of a stabbing in Old Swan today (Wednesday 14 April).

"At around 3.15pm, police received a report that a male and female had been stabbed in the chest and back on Southgate Road.

"Emergency services attended and both victims have been taken to hospital for their injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

"A 21-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and taken to a police station for questioning. A knife has also been recovered by officers.

"Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and police remain in the area to speak to witnesses and carry out forensic and CCTV enquiries."

Walsh, of Packenham Road, West Derby,, appeared at Liverpool Magistrates' Court this morning dressed in a grey sweater and joggers with her dark hair pulled back into a ponytail.

She is charged with attempting to murder Kelsey Gielinck and Wesley Pemberton on Wednesday, April 14.

Walsh is also charged with theft of Ms Gielinck's credit card between March 15 and April 14 this year.

Amie Gouldson prosecuted the case on behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service while Ian Till defended Walsh.

Walsh spoke to confirm her name, date of birth and address from the dock.

A legal advisor read the charges and explained the case was "so serious" it can only be dealt with at a crown court.

Walsh was not asked to plead to any of the offences today and will instead enter her pleas at Liverpool Crown Court.
